April 2nd, 2026 by David Kershen.

April is upon us, and so is our annual veterinarian day at New Hope. Every Spring we bring in Doc Jenn to do full health workups on our hard-working therapy herd. They get vaccinations, physical exams and dental all in one trip!

The most time-consuming part is the dental work. It’s very important to have our horses’ teeth floated (filing down sharp enamel points, hooks, or waves) on a regular basis to prevent mouth pain, ensure efficient chewing, and improve their long-term health. Most horses have to be sedated to undergo floating to keep the process stress free. You’ll see “relaxed” horses tied on our fence all day as we work through the herd. Miss Kim and her volunteers do an excellent job of keeping things flowing on vet day, making sure things go off without a hitch.

A big New Hope Thank You to Dr Jennifer Voellinger at Precision Equine for the extra time and attention spent with our equine crew!

Ride on and ride for hope.

Veterinarian Day is a very necessary, but major expense for our operation. If you’d like to pitch in and help with our horse care, simply click here to Donate to New Hope.
